I bought two of these toys to mount on a board on the wall in my son's room, as both a toy and a decoration. This has made one big rectangle that work together. There are white pieces that fit on the backs of the gears that go into a plastic peg-board. These pieces are a little hard to get on, because they are white pegs going into a white board. We took a permanent marker and placed dots on the topside of each piece where the holes were to make lining it up a little easier. The disks slide on great and move great as long as your little one doesn't pull upward. The gears can be stacked one on top of eachother. Because my son is young (under 2), we are just using the big disks and the two handles right now, which has simplified things. As he gets a little bigger we'll add the other disks and build more layers. My son likes this toy (likes gears) and was quick to pick up on how to assemble them, but as a few weeks have gone by, it isn't his go to toy. He's still a little young for it. The colors are attractive and the disks are a good size. If your child still puts things in his/her mouth, the white pieces on the back could be a problem.
My 3 year old son absolutely loves this toy. He is not a typical boy who plays with cars and trains as intended - he pulls all his toys apart in order to figure out how they work and is especially fascinated with gears. So this toy is perfect for his inquisitive mind. Very durable, easy to setup, and continued to entertain him daily. The only thing to watch out for if you have a younger baby in the house as well, is that there are little connector pieces that connect the gear to the white lego-like surface. The connectors are about an inch in diameter and may be a choking hazard for little ones. So we keep a close eye when the toy is out and sequester the extra connectors in a separate ziploc bag so that our 3 year old only has enough to work with at the time. Our younger son is almost 19 months, and even he is taking to the toy as well and can almost figure out how to connect the gears together but doesn't quite have the dexterity to make it work. He does however love to just spin a gear in his hand. A fun thing our 3 year old figured out is holding the gear under a faucet so that it spins like a water wheel. Definitely will buy most products from this brand!
We bought these for our 3 year old 4 months ago, and happily all of the pieces have held up well. These are very entertaining even for us parents and are great for learning colors and developing gross and fine motor skills. The white base pieces are a little difficult for little hands to push together, but that's okay by me because they don't slip apart while playing with them.
I bought these for my 3 year old for Christmas this year and he LOVES them! Sometimes he'll get a little frustrated if he can't get the pegs in the holes quick enough or if he can't get one positioned close enough to turn with the others, but he does pretty well and I try to stay near enough to help if needed. I think its a good lesson in patience and trying not to get frustrated when something doesn't work the first time. I gave them to him while I was washing dishes a few days ago and he managed to put all of them together all by himself without ever getting frustrated or asking for help....and they all turned. I love that the pieces are sturdy and vibrant. They're easy to put together and interesting to make a new design each time.
I recently bought this toy for my son Jacob who is four and Autistic,He really likes this toy although I can't keep it together long enough for him to really see all of them working. I'm just glad he plays with it! I would buy from them again!! Thank You!! Heidi Van Oss
