Highlights

  • Rocky dig site
  • Chisel
  • Brush
  • Tyrannosaurus rex bones
  • Clear instructions

The Young Paleontologists Excavation set is a child's introduction to the practical side of learning about dinosaurs. As amazing as it is to learn about dinosaurs in books and documentaries, how incredible would it be to simulate an actual dinosaur fossil excavation? The Young Paleontologists Excavation provides children with a rocky excavation site containing pieces of a tyrannosaurus rex that can then be assembled. Kids will use the chisel and brush to carefully but steadily take out the dinosaur bones.

Our SmartKidsPlanet initiative began in 2017 when 3 geeky and dedicated parents saw a gap in the children’s toys and games market. An opportunity was spotted while we struggled to find toys and games for our kids which enriched their minds and guided them toward science, art, math and construction. The trio then knew that their paths were set, establishing an online shop with a comprehensive range of intelligent toys for babies, children and young teenagers.

With offices based in California, our SmartKidsPlanet team enjoys a daily growth in our presence within the children’s educational toys market. We love our new place in life, and we love helping young minds with their growth and skill development, all while having as much fun as possible.

Awesome gift for future paleontologists

My 6 year old loves dinos and she wants to be a paleontologists. We purchased the triceratops version from a museum so I was glad to see another version. It takes a while to get all the pieces out (really feel like you get your monies worth). Also really enjoy having additional things to do after all the pieces are found, putting it together! Overall really impressed, wish they had even more dinos to dig and put together

Great Rainy Day Activity

I bought this for a 5 year old, even though the recommended age is a bit higher. The acrylic "bones" come encased in a plaster block along with a little sort of thick, sturdy butter knife type tool and a little paintbrush.

Great, fun. Hours upon hours of FUNNNN

My kids have had HOURS and HOURS of fun with this. They still arent even half way done but yet arent getting frustrated at all. Theyre 4 and 6 and lose interest fast to some things, but they work on this for 3min + and then keep coming back every day to work on it again, they cant get enough and are so excited to unearth new pieces. Cant wait to finish and buy another some time. The brush tool it comes with is crappy so we used our own strong paint brush and works better and faster.

Learning Made Fun

This toy is great fun. I suggest getting safety glasses for your little paleontologist to keep the dust out of their eyes. The plaster makes a bit dusty mess, so working on an edged cookie tray makes clean up easy. ;) For about the cost of a movie ticket, this toy provides hours of entertainment and gives you a skeleton toy to keep in the end.

Nice t rex

Wow, this is messy! We got it for Christmas and the weather has been really wet. So we put this on the dining table and it took up a whole space for almost two weeks until mommy (that would be me) got tired of the mess and finished digging out the fossils. My kids are 6 and 4. What they don't have is the stamina to dig out the dinosaur all in one sitting. So they would take turns playing/digging but would tire after a short time even though they found all the fossils. An older or more determined child would be able to dig everything in one day.
