My three year old grandson is non-verbal (His older sister does all the talking for him). This toy will encourage him to be verbal with a 15 phrase control library. It is cute and engaging and the kid will have to give it voice commands. It has a remote control and a smart phone interface, but the voice control is the real feature that attracted us. It is fun. It seems to be exactly what we were looking for!.
We read the information about this robot and decided to buy it. We received and anxious to put the batteries in to check out the programs it does. This is a great gift item, have not seen anything like it, would recommend it. A real entertainer for younger children. I was surprised at how truly interactive this robot is. Out of the box, there are several voice commands. Some prompt an automatic reply and the others allow directional movement. If using the remote that it came with there are a lot more functions and some touch sensors on the robot itself.
I bought this as a gift, but I got to play with it and didn't want to give the controller back. It's worth the money to have the extra functions that this has. Oh...it needs a hard surface flooring to move on
I am an assistive technology specialist in a school district and with our state lending library. Carle is awesome!!! He responds to computer generated speech and can be used by students who use or are learning to use argumentative alternative communication on communication device. In the video, I have created a page on a communication device. I am also going to create some recipes on an iPad to make it switch accessible for students who need adaptive switches to engage in play, functional activities and as practice for communication and driving a power wheelchair with head switches. This tool is amazing and will bring joy and independence to the amazing student's I work with! I am also having a blast playing with it!
Four year old grandson absolutely loved this Robot! It has several great qualities: substantial size, robot's voice is a wonderful kid friendly voice, extremely diverse in tasks and speech, aesthetically appealing, made to last /sturdy ,long lasting battery, just pain fun for any child who likes to make commands and see them happen. How refreshing for all children who are constantly being told what to do and having no choice but to follow orders. Especially fun for children who love robots, love to play with remotes or love to give orders! Think that this includes most all children. On the downside it is a bit noisy for adults in same room and though you can turn down the volume ( not user friendly to do) you can't turn sound off or at least we couldn't figure out how. We could not get volume real real low either. Every time it turns off it automatically goes back to 'loud'. Too loud for children? Absolutely not! Perfect if they have their own play space. As an elementary teacher 30 years I'd say this toy is good for children ages 3 ( with parental help) to about age 12, or older depending on the child.
Weve always been looking for good quality robots and STEM products for our kindergarten age daughter who loves robots. Weve tried some programmable bots you can see pictured, but this Roku bot easily took center stage. As far as programming goes, children of this age can get frustrated and tired of it easily, so you need to simply have a fun time with a robot if you want to keep up their interest with them. Thats what this robot is perfect for. Its just fun to use. The remote is the best feature, since you can still get granular control of its limbs, joints, and torso. And then of course there are pre-programmed functions like dancing, storytelling, music (its included music is really not our style at all, but you might hear something you recognize). We havent even used any of the app features yet, so weve got more value to dig into later. Its great for ages 5-8 I would say. Definitely recommended if youre looking for an all-around introduction to robots for your kid, going with this is an easy decision, and wont disappoint, and you slowly build towards programming.
