This robot has some serious programming languages available, and although it doesn't always draw exactly what it's supposed to it's a really fun and well put together thing. Probably the most powerful coding toy I've used so far.
His stay might be temporary or permanent - depending on how many toys I can donate this year. If it is a skimpy amount, I will throw him in and if it isn't, he might just stay here and teach me one or more of the 5 coding languages he knows. He is also preprogrammed with some things and he is wi-fi enabled. You also will need to download an app. He will teach STEM skills in Blockley, Snap, JavaScipt, Python, and C++
Its a great little robot, designed to both entertain and teach, from a very well respected company in child education toys. The quality of the robot is evident as soon as you see it. It is actually more of a STEAM toy since it definitely includes an artistic component.
In addition to it being a well-designed robot from a physical perspective, this also did a great job from a connectivity, software, and app perspective. It doesnt require an Internet connection, which is best (and safer) for a kids toy. It has its own self-contained wifi connection component and webserver, which allows you to connect directly from your smart device. The app itself downloads from the robot, which doesnt require you to download and install anything from an external app store.
The 5 software languages it supports and teaches are real, and some of the most widely used programming languages that power the Internet, especially the JavaScript, Python, and C++ languages. It isnt going to be the full-blown versions of those languages, so dont expect it. But it is enough and an appropriate level as a kids intro into programming languages and coding skills.
The other good thing about their app is the ability to simulate the drawing, which ultimately saves paper and marker ink. They can code, run the simulation, tweak and rerun repeatedly to get the drawing perfect. Then they can get Artie to run the finished program to create an actual physical copy of their design. Its a great way to see a physical result of what can quite often be an abstract conceptual thing when it comes to writing code.
A great choice and option for introducing kids and classrooms to coding.
Educational Insights is a rock solid name in children's educational toys, and we have quite a number of them. From Hot Dots to Design & Drill to the fun plush Mixaroo, Educational Insights toys are winners. Artie Max is no exception.
This coding toy is fantastic combining your child's interests in coding, art, and frankly just having a cute little robot to do their biding.
Easy to set up. Easy to use.
Artie is actually slightly larger than expected. Everything is very well made and thought out. You will have access to tutorials and demos, and the Guide is as clearly written and easy to follow as any I've ever seen.
You can code in five languages plus Artie's own. I would have liked to have seen the Guide go deeper on the languages, but I assume that will all fall into place as we work our way through the options.
This robot is Amazing you code and it draws what you code. Ordered for my classroom and this seems like the perfect STEAM toy
