My youngest daughter loves rocks and precious stones. She initially wasn't very excited with this gift but once we actually started the tumbling, she was excited. The kit comes with everything you need to tumble one batch of rocks. Extra stones and grit are also available to buy if you want to tumble another set of stones. The tumbler is very noisy as you have to keep it running for a few days at a time. We ended up plugging hers into an outlet in the garage so we didn't hear the tumbler in the house. The whole process took about a month but my daughter loved opening it up and rinsing out the stones and checking them out before the next tumble. Bear in mind that the process does where down the stones as it is a process of erosion. Some smaller stones do get so small that you can't do much with them but my daughter didn't care as she loves the tiny rocks just as much as the larger ones. Overall it was a great buy and we will be buying her some more extra stones to tumble again.
Bought this for myself as a Christmas present. Its been turning rocks almost nonstop since I got it 5 months ago. Last week the top starting leaking. I called the company. A real person answered. After hearing my problem, she not only told me the top would be replaced but offered to replace the grit that had been lost. New top arrived in two days. Didn't need more grit. The tumbler is back tumbling rocks!
We got this kit as part of a geology unit study. It came with everything that we need to tumble about a dozen rocks. The process is a long one, so we are only half way through, but so far both my 5 y/o and 11 y/o enjoy seeing the changes in the rocks. We took pictures of the rocks before they started and then again after they finished tumbling with the first grit. The children are anxious to see the final reveal. This is not only a lesson in geology, but one in patience as well. Just a warning, it is a noisy little machine. We moved our from the laundry room to the garage after a few minutes.
My 8 year old was very excited to get this for his birthday. We had to find the right place to keep it in the house; some places it echoed everywhere, but it's not any louder than it has to be (it is tumbling rocks, after all). The instructions are clear and we've just finished the first round of tumbling. It was cool to see the stones that came out; they look so different from the ones we put in, and are already pretty. Be aware that it needs to run for days at a time. I unplugged it at night, just because I'm freakishly worried about fire (there were no indications the motor couldn't handle continuous use), but it still got the job done in the time listed.
I checked the stones partway through the cycle and must have gotten some grit in the threads when I screwed the lid back on, because then it kept leaking a teensy bit. A thorough cleaning seems to have done the job now.
Got this for my 6 year olds birthday . Great Little Rock tumbler , feels sturdy ours has been running for about a week now and we have had no issues . Doesn't leak and isn't super loud . ( we still keep it in the garage though ) . We are on the second grit the first one did a great job . My son wanted to keep them after the first round they looked so good . Attaché are how the rocks looked raw and after the first tumble
