Grandmaster Junior Chess Kit

Very satisfied with this purchase. Arrived in about 3 days after placing order. The quality of the all-plastic pieces are very good, and the rubber mat was neatly rolled into the box package it came with and without any kinks nor flairs on the edges which would be a problem once it's laid on a flat surface. The only curious thing about this particular order is the presence of extra pieces (1 white queen, 1 black queen, and 1 black pawn). What gives? Any serious chess player would say they could get by without extra pieces in cases of pawn promotion. Here's hoping that this package has no direct effect on another totally different order which potentially could be losing pieces.

This is the perfect little set for a beginning chess wizard to use. It is sturdy, not breakable, and my kiddos both enjoy bringing the whole chess set to life with the two sets of game pieces. I like that the board rolls up and out of the way. That is a really useful feature in my household. I could not give it higher marks "for traveling" because it needs some sort of bag or carrier that would enclose the pieces in order to meet that criteria. I would put it into a big huge ziplock and in a grocery bag probably, but for sake of not losing pieces, we don't take it traveling yet.

My eight grandson joined a chess club after school. I asked his chess teacher what chess set would be good for beginners.
He recommended the set above. It is perfect, the pieces are large and the chess board is flexible and the spaces are large. And the price is perfect for a beginner. I checked other chess sets and they were very expensive and the pieces and the board were very small.
We played a few games once we received the set. My grandson checkmated me three times!!!

I love this. I bought this for my home and to have a pack and go set that is easy to use.

The pieces are sturdy without being stone or overly heavy.

The board is easy on the eyes. It rolls up without creasing and unrolls perfectly flat.

Spill wine or coffee on it? It wipes clean. I know from experience.

It includes an extra queen per color. No more hijacking a mismatched piece from another board or using a quarter. That is, unless you manage to get two pawns down without losing your native queen.

I was pleased so much with this that I have given these to others already as gifts. It is better than I used in high school (we used laminated paper boards), so this is a thrill.

Excited to open this new present for my 8 yr old son!! Came well packed and on time. The pieces are nice and the package contains 1 extra queen for black and white. The numbers and letters on the board are crisp. Looks high quality and great value for the money! I would have loved to have a box/carry case to make it easy to carry it around but I can certainly use a bread box or something for that purpose. All in all, very happy and excited about the product!
