Bought these for my nephew's 9th birthday. He likes to do the Lego kits but I wanted something with more "cause and effect". These are great! He and his 6 year old sister have a blast following the diagram and seeing what they can create. I'm sure there's some educational benefit but I don't see how much you can really learn about electricity by playing with the circuits without supplemental content. It might spark an interest in learning about how electricity works though.
I bought this for my eight year old son for Christmas. Both his father and I were electronics technicians in the Navy and I thought it would be a fun way to share some of our experience with him. We hadn't had a chance to play with it yet, and I was busy today in my office. My son was in his room playing and came in to my office to show me how he had created a fan circuit by reading the manual. Sure enough, once we put in the batteries and closed the switch, it worked like a charm. This is a great little kit for use one on one or in group play.
My daughter loves these! I guess she uses these at her school for her stem class and just had to have them.. there are so many different circuit designs and projects in the two books it comes with to keep your child entertained forever. She is taught valuable lessons as well as keeping her off of her iPad. She learns to read instructions every time, about electrical currents, how to read diagrams, and how to take care of smal objects. Like I said earlier there are hundreds of different circuit plans to keep your child busy for a long time. I am very happy with this purchase and the fact that my daughter likes to do technical things like this. Great for our daddy daughter time because it is challenging and we are able to complete objectives together.
This is a great toy for a great value. As a high school physics teacher, I am usually very disappointed in "science toys" and their quality and price and rarely ever buy them for my kids. This toy delivers everything it says. I can't say enough about how pleased I am with this toy. My 10 year old easily spent about 8 hours with this the first two days. I was amazed at the science she was learning about circuits while having lots of fun (she periodically would ask me to explain how/why something worked but that information was not needed to play with the toy). I think for kids that enjoy building things this is the perfect toy. My 7 yr old also enjoyed playing with it and could follow the directions all on her own. Great educational toy. So glad I went with this toy over Little Bits (which look great but are very expensive). I think it would be great for schools as well that are thinking of purchasing these to teach about circuits (appropriate for elementary and middle school students).
I am a nanny and bought this for my 7 year old boy that is somewhat interested in robotics. He's really into Legos and building things but I wanted something that he could use more than just the one time that you typically build a Lego set before it sits around. I had a hard time deciding whether to buy this or the junior circuit set because this says it's for ages 8 and up but I'm glad I got this one! I'm also fresh out of high school so I've recently used circuit sets in my physics class and dreaded them so I was worried as to whether or not he would enjoy this enough as a toy. I was way off base! We spent 10 hours just playing with this toy alone and barely made a dent in all of the 300+ projects available to build! At 19 I even genuinely enjoyed all of the projects we built! The instructions are fairly clear to build each of the projects but I think reading the paragraphs in order to understand the science behind each one went a little over his head at 7. Even after he read the paragraphs, he didn't understand most of them. Overall I think it was a great buy and he absolutely loved it! This will definitely keep him busy for a long time and it will be hard to get bored of with all of the options available!
