My children love using their kit for their homeschooling lessons and play! It comes with a variety of different components that can be easily snapped together to create a variety of fun and educational projects. My children have had a lot of fun learning while using this set. I appreciate that the set is durable and well-made, it is able to withstand the wear and tear of daily use. It would be a great gift for children interested in science and technology and it is a fantastic teaching tool.
Got this for my son to give him something hands on to do that he could learn from. There's 305 total projects so plenty to do to last for awhile without repeating. The fan is really fun. The pieces are of good, solid quality and are intuitive to attach. Seem pretty durable as well. I'm using my digital multimeter to supplement and show the actual voltage numbers and resistance numbers.
I purchased this for my 8 yr-old son for Christmas - I was looking for something hands-on that would get him away from video games. This toy did the trick! He immediately sat down with it, and within 5 minutes had already built something. A little while later he showed us the FM radio he was picking up stations with. I have 5 boys ages 8-17, and all but the oldest sat down and built the projects in the books. It comes with 2 project books - he's already built all the projects (there are about 100 in each book). Now I am encouraging him to learn to build his own designs. Great hands-on educational toy!
My son LOVES these snap on circuits, and I love the educational value as well! We've spent a lot of time reading through the projects and progressing to more complex ones. The instructions don't go into a lot of detail about how each part (or electricity in general) works, but they do give a good, simple introduction. Enough to have lots of fun. This kit would be great for science labs, given a little supplemental reading material. I HIGHLY recommend this for the science classroom--it's a great resource, and simple to assemble, disassemble, and organize! Note though--this isn't the type of toy that will automatically teach a kid how electricity works...you've got to do some teaching (and learning) yourself. The circuits are designed to help kids demonstrate and apply knowledge, and help them explore new possibilities--this is a supplement to teaching, not a teacher!
I bought this for my eight year old son for Christmas. Both his father and I were electronics technicians in the Navy and I thought it would be a fun way to share some of our experience with him. We hadn't had a chance to play with it yet, and I was busy today in my office. My son was in his room playing and came in to my office to show me how he had created a fan circuit by reading the manual. Sure enough, once we put in the batteries and closed the switch, it worked like a charm. This is a great little kit for use one on one or in group play.
