STEM Odyssey Robo Coder

We love this thing! I got it for my 6 year old for Christmas and got my 9 year old daughter the blocks Boost. The robot is by far the favorite for them both. I had thought the robot seemed geared for younger kids more than older, but there are several apps for play and each app not only has varying levels of difficulty built in, but even the open play modes are as complicated or simple as the child can make them.

This is a great product and, I'd recommend it all day long.

This is by far the best STEM toy ever. My daughter won't stop playing with it. She is 7 and gets easily frustrated when things are too hard. The easy instruction and "hints" make this challenging enough for her to continue to want to move forward, but easy enough that she can complete the tasks on her own. Having her come show me the new "programs" she makes is so exciting for both of us.

Bought one for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas and my 8 year old son bought himself one several months later with his birthday money. The robots themselves are made from high quality parts and are very sturdy. The updates/setup take a while, so I'd recommend getting that all done a day or two before if you are planning to give Dash as a gift.

I chose Dash and Dot for my kids after reviewing 10-15 different kinds of robots and am very pleased with my decision. The team is doing a lot to keep the robots engaging including Scroll Quest missions, Dash and Dot Tv, and the robotics competition. My kids have had a few other robots before but Dash and Dot have definitely provided the most hours of play. I recommend getting started with Scroll Quest in the app. There is also an app which has an interface very similar to code.org which your child may have used before at school.

My 5-year old daughter and my 11-year old son both enjoy it (and my husband and I do, too). There are many different apps you can use to control it in different ways. It's a wonderful introduction to robotics/programming. Worth every penny.

Absolutely amazing toy. The shear number of movements and traits this thing can do are way more than i expected for the price. It is actually a really complex robot. The programming interface though is truly what sets it apart. This is not a basic toy. The level of complex logic and programmable sequences that you can do with this robot are really vast. It also is very well suited for kids in that they are exploring computer programming without even knowing that this is what they are doing. This was important for my daughter because she has developed this attitude to "coding" that she does not want to do it and I have had trouble overcoming this. With Dash she was fully engaged, wanting to control and create specific behaviors of the robot and this desire drove her to master the programming interface quickly and continue to add layer upon layer of complexity to her routines. After only a few days she had created some very complex routines with +50 steps including branching logic and decision making. I was super impressed and i told her "hey you realize you can program a computer?!?" and she was like "really? oh so programming is fun!"
